What I Packed for the Holidays in NYC

  I am headed into the city for a few festive days to kick off the holidays! New York during the holidays is one of my favorite times of year. For this trip, I tried to think about what would be chic, cozy and warm and would transition well from day to night. I will wear my over the knee boots during the day and can easily switch them out for my black platforms for our shows and dinners. I also wanted to feel a little festive in my outfits so we have some pops of plaid- like the tartan nap dress and headband.  NYC HOLIDAY TRIP PACKING LIST:  Black Jacket  |   Headband  |   Sherpa Jacket  |  Ear Muffs  |   Plaid Pants Feather Shirt  |   Black Dress  |   Black Turtleneck Mittens  |   Black Platforms  |   Black Boots  | Plaid Nap Dress Happy holidays, and #dontforgetyourpearls  SHOP THE POST: JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Recreate Favorite Holiday Looks

 Nothing makes me feel more warm and happy inside than the holiday season. 2020 will not take the joy out of it either, lol. The holidays will look a lot different this year, but I am still excited for them! I just wanted to look back on some holiday fun from last year, and find some similar pieces to recreate the festive looks! I know that Thanksgiving is next week, so if you need some inspo, here you go (and yes these could be considered too festive for turkey day, but its part of the holidays and plaid is a must!)   New J. Layers + LBD

Boots [also here ]  |   Dress  |   Button-up I do not know what it is about it, but I have been gravitated to the color black during the later months of winter. I think I added at least 3 new black dresses to my wardrobe, and these black OTK boots ! That is a lot for someone who claims their favorite neutral to be navy, haha. As we approach spring (yay!), it can be an awkward time to dress because its not completely warm enough for bare arms and legs, but not cold enough for a full on sweater/jacket, etc., situation. Enter my favorite style technique ever: layering! I always have loved to layer a button-up or ruffle collared shirt under really anything. I think it adds a classic touch, and can be practical. I layered this gorgeous, short-sleeve light sweater dress with a white button-up, and loved the look of it. The long sleeve under the short sleeve dress is perfect for warmer days that are not yet spring days! It also adds a lit...

On Broadway- Tips for affordable show tickets!

My ENTIRE life, I have been in love with musical theater. The love goes way back, but I remember when it started. I was 6 years old, and we went to see a regional production of The Music Man (actually, was at one of the most famous dinner theaters: Chanhassen Dinner Theater! This is where Laura Osnes got her start! if you know you know 😉). I was mesmerized at what was happening on stage, and fell in love with musicals. Since then, I have always been more inclined to see live theater, than to go to a movie. Musicals are such a special space because of the fact that they are live.  Whenever I go to see a show, I always think that that particular performance is "just for us;" meaning that even though a show is rehearsed, and has the same dialogue and songs, being live on stage is not going to be exactly the same  for every performance. No one else will see that particular performance that you saw, and that makes it feel more like a special experience. Stage actors do not...

Having a day of YES {preppy girl fall!}

White jeans  |   Ruffle neck shirt  |   Blazer  |   Loafers Sometimes you just need a day to live, be spontaneous, and fully enjoy yourself. I call it a Day of Yes. What you chose to do on your day of yes, is entirely up to you. Whatever it is, it should bring joy (#sparksjoy). The other week, we totally needed a day of yes, so we popped into the city for some wandering, cupcake eating, and imbibing. Wherever the day took us, that is where we ended up! We started out in the West Village to do some stoop stalking and look at fall decor schemes. Popping by the Friends Apartment Building is always a must while in the West Village. My  favorite  street/court in the city is Grove Court, and it was decorated to fall perfection. Of course a fun fall day comes with the perfect fall outfit: white jeans, navy ruffle neck top and camel blazer, completed with the most comfy loafers. I was dressed ready for anything on this day. F...

A night with GMG + Margaux

Thank you, Thomas, for directing us for a killer photo! My shoes  |   Julia's shoes  |   Julia's coat What a night this was. It was basically one my dreams come true. Earlier in the week, Gal Meets Glam launched their first coat collection in NYC! And, last month, they launched their shoe collection with Margaux ! So to celebrate the new GMG collections, they had a little event at the Margaux store in the West Village, NYC. It was a gross, rainy day, but I was attending no matter what! Julia, Thomas, the GMG team, and the Margaux team were all there! They even had the new coats to try on!! I knew I had to pull out all the stops for the outfit, and wore a favorite GMG dress from last winter, and my new GMG x Margaux pink velvet loafers !  It was such a gorgeous night, and I did try on every single coat, multiple times, and convinced some gals that they need to try on the GMG loafers !! I loved all of the coats. They are beautiful, and exactly wha...

A little blue dress

Dress  |   Similar bag  (on sale!!)  |   Similar flats I think the title of this post should really be: the dress I wore the other day that got so many compliments, and I need to tell you about. But, this would be a bit long winded for a title, ahah! I am serious though, like, this dress!! The amount of sweet, kind words about this dress should really be given to Gal Meets Glam because wow!!! I am wearing the Addison dress in this beautiful light blue that is almost like a lighter, muted Tiffany blue color. It is gorgeous! It is also a nice light cotton material, perfect for the HOT weather we have been having on the East Coast. (also, a type of dress that I talked about in my most recent What I'm Loving ).  It is a true wrap dress, and the fabric has the perfect amount of stretch. I wear my true size in the dress/Gal Meets Glam, but because it is a wrap dress, you could size down if you wanted to. I love a wrap dress because yo...

Schmack Attack

Growing up in Minnesota, I have always had a love for NYC. We took several trips there while growing up, and one trip I discovered something brilliant. Like beyond amazing: Schmackary's Cookies . I used to have these shipped to Minnesota 😋. They are still some of my favorite cookies, and treats EVER! The cookie flavors are so so creative , but of course they have the traditional ones like chocolate chip. They even have a large selection of gluten free cookies and sweets for me!! I am so incredibly happy that I live a literal hop, skip and a jump away from my favorite treats. The other day I popped in there for some cookies to-go after I saw a show. The cookies were put in these adorable blue and white striped Schmackary's boxes, and I almost felt inspired by the colors and stripes. I mean blue and white stripes, AND delicious cookies? Dream combo right there! As soon as I opened this box, I heard the pitter-patter of paws come into the room, aha! My curren...

Playing with Photography

I got a nice Nikon camera for Christmas. I have been slowly learning how to use it, and finding my photography style. I pretty much still do not have the best idea of what I am doing (haha), but I am trying! When I was last in NYC, I had my camera, and took some fun shots in the city. Here are the few that I was most proud of 😊. (Again, I'm still learning!!) As always,  #dontforgetyourpearls

Travel Diary: NYC iPhone Pics

Ok, ok, I know. Going to NYC was not really traveling for me, but it was a staycation with the bestie visiting from MN! So it was traveling for her, so traveling for me?! Let's just go with that 😂 But anyway, I think this is going to be a new thing: whenever I go somewhere, I will have a travel diary with pics from my phone, mostly (have some from the Nikon that I have to share)! So here is our weekend in NYC. We had a blast!! Bluestone Lane has the yummiest avocado toast, and they have a gluten free bread for me! Next time, I am going to add some feta to my avo toast. Yummm! Bad picture, I know, BUT I had to capture thee Tiffany Diamond that Lady Gaga wore to the Oscars. So. Freaking. Impeccable.  I did a whole post about this little gem of a spot! Going to Kate Spade on Madison Ave is always a must.  I may have oops'ed whilst in Tiffany and Co .  Found this cute little Italian place on Restaurant Row in Hell's Kitchen. My ad...
